About this extension

Local Search New Tab is a cross‑browser extension that keeps your new tab page fully local and only talks to search engines when you actually submit a query.

What it does
Replaces the browser’s new tab page (where supported) with a bundled local page.
Lets you pick and customize search engines, using %s as the query placeholder.
Provides quick links and reordering for your most-used sites.
Only sends a network request when you press Enter on a search.
Offers a LocalBlank fallback search engine for browsers that don’t allow new-tab overrides.

Developer comments

This is a local new-tab replacement extension with the same feature set as the version approved on the Chrome Web Store. On Firefox for Android, the new-tab override does not automatically trigger because Firefox for Android does not currently support the same new-tab override behavior as desktop Firefox. The https://127.0.0.1/* host permission is used only for a localhost trigger URL that redirects into the extension’s internal page (newtab.html), optionally preserving a query string for search prefilling; this does not require a local server to be running.
