────────────────────────────────────
1. OVERVIEW
────────────────────────────────────
SurfTrack is a browser extension designed to help you track and
manage your browsing habits. We are committed to protecting your
privacy. This policy explains what data SurfTrack collects, how
it is stored, and your rights over that data.
The short version: everything stays on your device. We collect
nothing. We store nothing on our servers. There are no servers.
────────────────────────────────────
2. WHAT DATA IS COLLECTED
────────────────────────────────────
SurfTrack collects the following data locally on your device:
- URLs and domain names of websites you visit, used to calculate
time spent per site - Time spent on each website, stored as duration values
- Your extension settings and preferences, such as blocked sites,
profiles, focus session history, and nudge thresholds - Distraction journal entries, which are notes you voluntarily
type when attempting to visit a blocked site
SurfTrack does NOT collect:
- The content of any webpage you visit
- Any personally identifiable information (name, email, etc.)
- Login credentials or form data of any kind
- Your search queries
- Any data from pages that require authentication
────────────────────────────────────
3. HOW DATA IS STORED
────────────────────────────────────
All data collected by SurfTrack is stored exclusively using your
browser's built-in local storage APIs (browser.storage.local and
browser.storage.sync).
- browser.storage.local — stores your browsing time history and
tracking data. This data never leaves your device. - browser.storage.sync — stores your settings and preferences.
If you are signed into your browser account, this data may be
synced across your own devices by your browser provider
(Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome) according to their own
privacy policies. SurfTrack has no access to or control over
this sync process.
────────────────────────────────────
4. DATA SHARING
────────────────────────────────────
SurfTrack does not share any data with anyone. Ever.
- We have no backend servers
- We make no network requests of any kind
- We do not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or
advertising services - We do not sell, rent, or trade any data
- No data is transmitted outside of your browser
────────────────────────────────────
5. DATA RETENTION AND DELETION
────────────────────────────────────
Your data is stored on your device for as long as the extension
is installed or until you choose to delete it.
You can delete all SurfTrack data at any time by:
- Opening the SurfTrack dashboard
- Navigating to the Settings page
- Clicking "Reset All Data"
This will permanently delete all tracking history, settings,
profiles, and journal entries from your device.
Uninstalling the extension will also remove all locally stored
data from your device.
────────────────────────────────────
6. PERMISSIONS
────────────────────────────────────
SurfTrack requests the following browser permissions and uses
them solely for the purposes described:
- tabs — to detect which website is currently active and
calculate time spent - webNavigation — to accurately track page visits and
navigation events - storage — to save your tracking data and settings locally
- alarms — to handle scheduled blocking, focus session timers,
and daily data resets - notifications — to send focus session and nudge alerts
- webRequest / declarativeNetRequest — to block websites
according to your configured rules - All website URLs — required to track time and apply blocking
rules across all sites you visit
SurfTrack does not use any permission for any purpose beyond
what is described above.
────────────────────────────────────
7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
────────────────────────────────────
SurfTrack does not knowingly collect any data from children
under the age of 13. The extension does not collect personal
information from any user regardless of age.
────────────────────────────────────
8. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
────────────────────────────────────
If we make any material changes to this privacy policy, we will
update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We
encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use
of SurfTrack after changes are made constitutes acceptance of
the updated policy.
────────────────────────────────────
