About this extension
WritersProof witnesses your creative process and produces cryptographic proof that you — a human — authored your work.
How it works:
As you write in Google Docs, Overleaf, Medium, Notion, or 40+ supported editors, WritersProof silently records SHA-256 content hashes and inter-keystroke timing intervals. This data is chained into a tamper-evident evidence packet proving your writing happened over real time with natural human behavior.
What it is not:
Not a keylogger — never captures what you typed. Not AI detection — does not analyze your words. Not surveillance — no content leaves your device.
Two modes:
- Standalone (browser-only): SHA-256 hash chains stored locally. No installation required. Free.
- Enhanced (with desktop app): Hardware-backed Ed25519 signatures, VDF time-proofs, and Secure Enclave binding.
Who needs this:
Students accused of using AI. Authors protecting manuscripts. Journalists documenting original reporting. Academics proving research integrity.
Supported editors:
Google Docs, Overleaf, Medium, Notion, WordPress, Substack, Ghost, Scrivener Web, and 30+ more.
Privacy:
Your manuscript content is never captured, stored, or transmitted. Only one-way cryptographic hashes and timing intervals are recorded. Everything runs locally.
Standards:
IETF Internet-Draft (RATS WG). CBOR/COSE wire format. C2PA compatible. IANA-registered CBOR tags. Apache 2.0 reference implementation.

Roadmap:
- v1.1: Auto-witness mode (automatically start when a supported editor is detected)
- v1.2: In-browser evidence export without desktop app
- v1.3: Collaborative document support (Google Docs multi-author sessions)
