About this extension
Dogear saves the pages you want to keep to a bookmark server that runs on your own machine. Nothing is sent to anyone else.
Click the toolbar button and the current page is filed away with its title, description, preview image and favicon already filled in. Add tags and a note before saving if you want to find it again by topic rather than by memory.
WHAT IT DOES
• Saves the page you are looking at in one click, on desktop and on Android.
• Reads the page's own metadata, so cards show a real preview image and summary.
• Shows a checkmark on the toolbar icon when the page is already saved, so you never save the same thing twice.
• Tag as you save, with suggestions from the tags you already use.
• Add a private note, or select text on the page and save it as the note.
• Right-click any link to save it without opening it.
• Mirrors bookmarks you star in Firefox to your server automatically, tagged with the folder you filed them under.
• Pushes your entire existing Firefox bookmark library to the server in one go.
• Keyboard shortcuts for saving without touching the mouse.
YOU NEED YOUR OWN SERVER
Dogear is the browser half of a two-part tool. The other half is a small open source server you run yourself — on a spare machine, a home server, or a Raspberry Pi. It stores your bookmarks in a single SQLite file, downloads and keeps its own copy of every preview image so links never go blank, and gives you a fast web library you can open from your phone.
Setup instructions are in the project repository. Once the server is running, enter its address in this extension's settings.
PRIVACY
This extension talks to one server: the one you enter in settings. It has no analytics, no telemetry, and no connection to the developer. It cannot read pages you do not save, because it only reads the page when you ask it to.
