SlopMute Privacy Policy

SlopMute filters YouTube content locally inside your browser. It does not require an account and does not collect analytics, telemetry, browsing history, search history, video-viewing activity, or personal information.

Local processing

SlopMute reads information already displayed on YouTube pages, including video titles, channel names, labels, badges, visible metadata, and accessibility text. This information is evaluated locally using filtering rules. It is not transmitted to SlopMute or an external AI service.

Local storage

SlopMute stores the following information locally in Firefox:

• Filtering settings and onboarding status
• Muted and allowed channels
• Permanently allowed videos
• User-created phrases and rules
• Local corrections and filtering preferences
• Local filtering statistics

Short-lived bookkeeping records used to prevent duplicate statistics are retained for up to eight days. They contain video IDs, dates, categories, and YouTube areas, but no video titles or channel names.

This information remains on the viewer’s device. It can be removed using “Reset everything” in SlopMute’s settings or by uninstalling the add-on.

Remote rules

Approximately once daily, SlopMute downloads a small JSON rules document from:

https://www.slopmute.com/rules/youtube-v1.json

The request does not include YouTube page content, video details, settings, cookies, account information, or a SlopMute identifier. The document contains filtering phrases, patterns, weights, and a version number. It is validated and size-limited before use. No remote executable code is downloaded or executed.

If the request fails, SlopMute continues using its bundled rules and last-known-good rules.

The optional thumbnail-analysis laboratory feature is disabled by default. If enabled by the viewer, it fetches thumbnail images directly from YouTube’s image servers. Those images are not sent to SlopMute.

Feedback

The Firefox version provides a mailto:hello@slopmute.com link. SlopMute does not automatically transmit feedback or attach page URLs, video information, settings, or diagnostics. The viewer chooses whether to send an email using their own email application.

Website

The SlopMute website cannot access the add-on’s settings, filtering history, YouTube pages, or local browser storage. Website analytics and measurement are separate from the Firefox add-on.
